Marijke is one of the early Jazz dancers since the revival of Lindy Hop in Ghent. Since then she never stopped dancing and digging in the history of swing dance and music. She’s all over the world on festivals as dancer or dj. In our hometown Ghent she’s very much involved with supporting ‘De Gentse Hoppers’ and keeping the swing alive for which we all love her.

As a DJ Mel’s focus is on keeping the crowd dancing and giving everyone the opportunity to have their best dance. She likes to bring tunes to the dance floor you may not have heard before (or not in that version) but that nonetheless make you wanna dance to immediately. You’ll hear familiar stuff as well – it’s all in the mix. Her strength is to adapt to the energy in the room whether it’s calling for straight Big Band Swing bringing high energy and swing outs or for small combos to play with the rhythm.

Olga lives through Lindy Hop. She started to DJ and dance in Moscow in 2003. Since then she spent a lot of time to learn the history of Jazz music. As a dance teacher she concentrated on beginners friendly music. That’s how we know her in Ghent as an involved DJ on social dance evenings but she also plays on international parties and dance camps. She has a week spot for big band swing, did some lists for competitions and can play for Lindy Hop, Balboa and Blues parties.

Joris Focquaert comes from Ghent, Belgium. He discovered the Lindy Hop in Copenhagen when he was studying at the Commedia School for mime & physical theatre. A background in the art of clowning, he takes this to his Jazz dances & dance performances, forming his attitude toward the dance. In class, Joris tries to share his best of ideas. He is one of the starting figures of swing dance school 'Crazy Legs' (Ghent) & vernacular jazz dance troupe 'the Dipsy Doodles'. Today he is a busy working dancer in Belgium & abroad, next to studying the Jazz trombone.

SAINT SAVOY'S SHOE SHOP

A WOOPIE BOW TIE SHOP

Helena Verheyen started this project in Herrang, an amazing dance camp... Started to take patterns of different bow ties, and making them out second hand clothes. She studied history of the ties in Paris, and made in Montreal the project running. The bow ties are all made by hand, some off the patterns I invented (Le Moustache), some patterns are history (Battoir, Butterfly). Every bow tie is made from second hand clothes, in every color there are max. 5 of them. When made from a normal tie, there is only one.

Our designs are inspired by the swanky elegance of the 1920s, the buttoned-up rowdiness of the 1930s, the glorious 1940s, and all the way to the wildness of the boogie, jive, and rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950s. We use modern materials where it makes sense, for example, to protect from impact or form a softer footbed. Tested by Experienced Dancers Before going on the market, all Saint Savoy shoes are tested and optimized together with experienced dancers to make sure they are suited to Charleston, Jitterbug, Solo Jazz, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate and Varsity Shag, Jive, Boogie Woogie, and Rock ‘n’ Roll.
